Bob Nourian was recently quoted in the January 3rd, 2013 edition of The Philadelphia Business Journal discussing lateral partner movement in 2013. His comments included...
Looking toward 2013, Nourian believes firms will enhance efforts to prune or demote unproductive partners, identify geographic areas where they need to be and deal with management succession plans that were put on hold due to the recession. He said they will aggressively pursue lateral partners with business but the competition for such lawyers will be intense.
Nourian also noted that firms have been extremely accommodating of productive partners. If a partner in 2006 or 2007 had problems with management, he said firms were not always accommodating to his or her concerns. "But now if a partner complains that the firm's [billing] rates are too high for their clients, firms will accommodate them," Nourian said.
